A New South Wales man accused of murdering his teenage girlfriend in the state’s Hunter Valley region has made several outbursts in court and been ordered to undergo an immediate mental health assessment.
The body of 18-year-old Emerald Wardle was found at 20-year-old Jordan Miller’s home yesterday, before he was arrested and charged with murder.
He today appeared via video link in a Newcastle court and had to be told multiple times by his lawyer to stay quiet after a number of outbursts.
“I am a murderer. I wrapped my hands around Emerald Wardle’s throat… She was lying in bed,” he said in court.
Friends of Emerald today told reporters they’re in shock after her death.
“She’s lovely, she’s kind, fun-loving, always making sure you’re okay and checking up on you,” friend Cassidy Baker said.
“Unfortunately, things went a bit too far for my friend Emmy.
“It’s okay to be able to speak if you need to talk about anything.”
